Popteen January 2011 exercise section.

O-kay, i'm incapable of operating the printer-scanner-fax machine in my house. So i've been downloading magazine scans even though i actually do buy the magazines. *technological dinosaur*

As usual, some scans and stuff that caught my eye, especially the exercise section, that should prove useful for those attending christmas parties, new year parties and chinese new year a little later. Social eating = Diet? what diet? IT'S A SEAFOOD DIET. i see food and eat it. i also need to stop using this joke. IT IS NO LONGER FUNNY. SIRUISLY.

k, so here're scans from the exercise section, credits to the scanner, i'm only picking stuff out and highlighting them. 8D.

The exercises are quite self-explanatory and the pictures basically show you how to do everything. Mostly compound exercises though.

Kara's Mister dance! I was so amused to find this and some other K-pop references in this issue.

I honestly don't know what's going on the with nose exercise, but--

Seriously, what is that.

I find these exercise sections rather useful cause all of them can be done at home. No need to go out into the sun or on the treadmill.

Long overdue Korea post part 1

So i've been blathering on about this trip to Seoul and haven't actually done a ~proper~ write-up of my touristy adventures, so here's part 1, along with a pile of photos.

These actually make up a minority of my hundreds of photos, but they'll do. I didn't Selca very much because i didn't bring makeup, so just for the span of these korea trip posts, forget that this is a Gyaru blog, obliviate.

Actually this is a bit of a personal thing, because i don't like putting on makeup when travelling, especially when a lot of walking is involved in case i lose one side of my false lashes and have to find a toilet to get it back on.

Also i was travelling with family so every morning went like this:

-crawl out of bed.

-stumble into toilet and try not to trip over anything.

-take quick shower

-get hustled out of hotel room by parents and various other factors such as tour timings.

Nope, no time for makeup. not cause i'm a lazy sod who doesn't want to get up earlier to do makeup.

We landed at Incheon airport in the late afternoon and caught one of the airport limousines (buses, really) to Hotel Ibis in Myeong-dong. It took ages to reach the hotel because of bad traffic, evenings, people get off work and all that.

This photo, taken from the 19th floor reception of the hotel is an accurate representation of the traffic conditions that day. See that street on the bottom left of the photo? One of the main shopping streets in Myeong-dong. CONVENIENCE!

My travelling experiences are usually not fraught with difficulty and failure, but wait till i start travelling alone.

After depositing our bags in the rooms we strolled down Myeong-dong to get some dinner; the human traffic was almost as bad as vehicular traffic. Even on a weekday night.

Of course after dinner and several minutes of aimless wandering, my sister struck gold we came across the huge SPAO outlet with Everysing upstairs. What's the significance? SPAO is apparently a tourist attraction for the burgeoning masses of kpop fans, specifically fans of SM Entertainment artistes, seeing as Everysing only stocks SME goods.

Snsd and Super Junior members were plastered everywhere, I love SNSD but seeing Yoona/Jessica/Seohyun/Sunny/Tiffany/Hyoyeon/Yuri/Sooyoung/Taeyeon's face multiple times, on massive pillars gets slightly disturbing.

However, i believe i know some people who'll be quite appreciative of Choi Siwon up against a pillar. Had to make a bad joke here, have this photo as penance.

Life sized SNSD cardboard cutouts in Everysing, both creepy and----well, just creepy.

Yuri and Yoona were at the entrance and the rest were in the middle of the room, so i just took one of those in the centre.

Once again, string of cosmetic shops, I LOVE KOREA WTF, and Holika Holika smells really good, like berries, all the time. Can you tell that i'm getting lazy to caption all of these photos, i mean, HOW MUCH CAN I SAY ABOUT A STRING OF COSMETIC SHOPS. Heaps, actually, but let's not weaken my case. OTL.

8000 won Samgyetang for brunch the next morning! There wasn't anything scheduled for today so we basically wandered aimlessly (we seem to do that a lot when overseas) from area to area.

Wandered into some underground shopping centres en route to Namdaemun market.

MOVING ON from the sudden lapse of sanity, some photos of back alleys in Insadong. Lovely place, very indie and evidently a tourist trap. But the architecture was a curious mix of old style houses and modern buildings, and Samzegil was quaint.

Shops in this area sold mostly crafts, souvenirs, art, ceramics, and other knick-knacks. Not entirely functionaly, but cute.

Stopped by a Starbucks (3 levels high wtf!) on the way. The Chai Tea Latte over there is much better than what i get here in Singapore outlets.

OTL my hair is terrible, but i'd dyed it with Liese's foam dye in milk tea brown, so it isn't quite as black as it was. This was taken in a park close to Insadong.

More photos of me indulging in selca in plain sight of some elderly groups in the park. i'm so shameless wtf. By the way that's my 20,000 won keychain bought in Namdaemun. I LOVE KOREA. Need to go back next year. Time to find a part time job in Melbourne and hope the pay is obscenely high, also hope KimJongIl doesn't have a sudden brain fart of nuclear proportions.

After that we walked from Insadong to Dongdaemun. I do believe spongtaenity is heriditary because we had no idea where to go, then "Let's walk to Dongdaemun!" " Okay!".

Came across KwangJang market on the way to Dongdaemun.

Lots of wedding stuff and dried goods.

Even more food stalls right in the centre. Those pancakes are drowning in oil but why do they look so good WTF.

Dongdaemun gate! Which was a significant distance away from the shopping centres, but worth a photo.

Dongdaemun river, the water was very clear. Well, apparently Dongdaemun was a shopping central in ancient Seoul, and it does remain one now.

Last photo of this post! Malls in Dongdaemun are almost all the same, this one was Hello APM there are others like Migliore, Doota (more high-end) and some scattered across the road. Tiny shops in close proximity to one another, not a place for the claustrophobic, but despite the saturation of clothing stores, you'll probably need to look really hard or bargain like mad to get good buys.

In several photos you'll notice i've covered up my familys' faces with random shapes, this is entirely out of personal preference.

Mini Makeup Haul from *~*Korea*~*

OKAY HERE'S THE SMALL MAKEUP HAUL POST. Though it's not really a haul because hauls usually involve a lot more things.

I think i only have 11.

LET'S PRETEND IT REALLY IS A HAUL. SO CONVINCING RIGHT? I KNOW.

Okay, so, from Korea i've got:

1. Etude House loose powder.


2. Baviphat Peach peeling gel.


3. ~MYSTERIOUS~ Etude House BBcream/primer thing i cannot find it on the site, so have a photo.

IT COMES OUT AS THIS SHIMMERY CREAM. SO COOL RIGHT WTF. Okay, so i read that green bases neutralise red tones, and purple bases brighten your complexion. But THIS BASE IS SHIMMERY. Not so shimmery i feel like Edward Cullen but just enough to give your skin a subtle brightness lift. It's also very light on the skin, unlike some other bases i've tried. OTL.

4. Etude House Lash Ampule

This might garner skepticism, but i'm just gonna say, itworked on me, my lower lashes are definitely longer and more visible, as are my upper lashes. It's probably subjective though, cause i've read reviews stating that it didn't work. Maybe it only works if you don't have much eyelashes in the first place. These were also going for 20,000 KRW per box in Korea.

5. Etude House Orgel Light Lipgloss

6. Baviphat Peach Lipbalm.

If you ever get a chance to go to Baviphat, BUY THIS. IT IS CHEAP AND SMELLS SO GOOD. i think about 3000KRW? yeah. THAT PRICE, FOR A POT OF OLFACTORY PLEASING and functional lipbalm. Only downside is that i want to eat the entire pot. OTL.

7. Etude House Code B Cream Eyeliner

I bought dark brown for this cause the black was very strong. This eyeliner delivers a strong colour as a general i think. Though it does get smudgy towards the end of the day, and you will turn into a freaking panda. NOT EVEN JOKING. I MUST'VE LOOKED RIDICULOUS ON THE MRT HOME. The brush is also a little tricky for first time users. Other than that, it's a decent eyeliner.

8. Etude House Golden Ratio Contour Maker

It is what it says it is. Colours are on the weak side, but it does the job, and comes in a very handy package.

Maybe i should've called this the Etude House and Baviphat  haul post instead. And yes, makeup really is that cheap in korea. Most of the things above were purchased in either one of the 3/4/5 Etude House stores in Myeong-Dong and cost below 20,000KRW each. My mum and sister did make purchases from other stores like Holika Holika, The Saem, ETCETC TOO MANY, LAZY TO TYPE.

But i digress, yes, pictures are very distracting. Now for the last 3 items.

9. Juicy Couture Couture Couture Solid Perfume Bracelet

I set the click through Url to the liquid Couture Couture perfume, cause i think the solid form, in the bracelet is only sold on flights. The scent is delightful. Unfortunately i'm not as good as describing scents as i am detecting them, so i cannot tell you what it smells like exact. But there are hints of sandalwood, and it's slightly sweet.

10. Chanel Eyeshadow Quatuor Boutons De Chanel

This consists of four shades of beige and brown and the harmony of these colours is fun to play around with. Only if i weren't so upset about having to brush the stamped on gold Chanel logo before using it. OTL.

Both of the above were purchased on Singapore Airlines (SIA) flights.

11. Majolica Majorca Lash Beautifying Mascara

GET. THIS. IT IS SO GOOD I CANNOT RECCOMMEND IT MORE. It doesn't smudge, and the colour is solid, not to mention it does lengthen lashes visibly. But remove it with a stronger makeup remover cause it's kind of stubborn. For those looking for a volumizing effect, give this a miss, it only lengthens, doesn't add much or any volume to your lashes.

Taking photos of clothes i bought from korea is proving tricky because they're all packed in my luggage to head back to Melbourne. BUT I WILL, it's only a matter of time. OTL.

Weddings; popping the wedding reception cherry.

Sorry for updating so sporadically!
I've been going out a lot more than i expected lately, especially with some relatives coming down from Penang to visit, and spending time with family.

Attended a distant cousin's wedding last saturday. So distant that i'd never even seen the guy before then, so forgive me if i sound rather dispassionate about the wedding, or weddings in general.

Seems like the dim lighting messed around with my blusher (again) i need to learn to take better makeup photos. OTL. Also, a random note, because this can be a bit of an issue with some bloggers, yes i do photoshop my photos marginally, usually i remove the eyebags and dark eye circles as well as narrow my jaw a little. SO HONEST WTF I DESERVE AN AWARD. OTL.

No i don't make my eyes bigger because, HELLO DISTRICT 9 ALIEN SIZED EYES NOT NICE OKAY, ONLY VERY SCARY. And my circle lenses already do a good enough job of SCARING THE WHOLE WORLD WAHAH, er i mean, they're really big, by that i mean HUGE. I've also been told that this pair (Dolly Brown) reflects light really well and gives eyes a bit of a sparkly effect. (though i was told in terms similar to "omfg your eyes are actually sparkling, you look like an anime character, please don't stare at me")

The flower centrepiece of every table. They're pretty and all, but after my grandma nicked them for us and we carted them home, they died within the span of 2 days. Which is why i'll just throw this in randomly and say i don't like flowers because of the negative symbolism in them dying so quickly.*IS WEIRD*

A blurry badly lit photo of the wedding cake, that wasn't actually a cake, sadly. Had to zoom my camera 12 times to get this photo. That's how far the stage was from our table. Though the table was more interesting, with the 817319371983122 course chinese meal. The dishes kept coming, it was like a neverending stream of goodness. If i ever go for a wedding dinner/lunch, IT'LL BE FOR THE FOOD.  In fact, the food was so good, i forgot to take an outfit shot, i did take a photo of my bag though.

I've never really noticed how almost everything in my bag is pink.

Photo taken when it was sitting on my sister's chair ofcourseit'snotoriginal.  The foxtail charm was bought in Korea for about 20,000 KRW. Bought it for the colour, cause you usually find black ones with dyed white tips, but this one's white with a dyed black tip. Matches my bag, that is notoriginal also white and black. Okay, so i get that Gyaru sees brands as valued commodities and all, but a poor student is a poor student. For the curious, the bag was bought in Penang, Malaysia.

Wedding gift thing, i'm told that they're given to all guests. Ate both the chocolates upon getting back home. Chocolates are the one thing you shouldn't give up in any diet. Depriving yourself probably make you crave it a lot more, and assuming you go off the diet, you're likely to binge eat ALL THIS GOOD STUFF YOU'VE MISSED. And boom, all weight lost comes back. Everything in moderation is ~perfect~.

Er, i'm on a seafood diet now though, I SEE FOOD, AND I EAT IT. Okay sorry, bad pun. I am so punny wtfhbbqlol.

Okay, i should have a cosmetics haul post up by today or tomorrow, so i'll leave you with this while we're still on the subject of weddings.

Jelly; Dec 2010 picks

OHAI! Just got back from Seoul on Monday night, at around 1am.

Photos will have to come later cause i've got 675 of them to sift through. I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW I EVEN MANAGED TO TAKE 675 PHOTOS.

Autumn colours are terribly dreary, hopefully winter brings in some cute fluffy colours. Then again, i was looking at Jelly, not Popteen. Popteen picks should be coming along soon!

Recently i've been drawn into more understated styles. Might be the influence of korean street fashion, which is, judging from what i've seen, ladylike, semi-formal, and subtle. It really depends on what you're looking at though. I did pick up this sweater in ghastly shades of purple and green. Purple and green happen to go quite well together, for some inexplicable reason.

But, i digress, beige, camel, brown, grey, black, khaki and tartan seem to be recurring colour palettes in this issue. As well as fur, in the form of legwarmers, vests, coats, scarves, or bags. Pants range from denim shorts to skinny jeans, boyfriend cuts, and slacks.

Red seems to be one of the more heavily featured vibrant colour in makeup now. Classic colour, goes with the season's muted tones, but tends to be a little tricky when it comes to picking a shade of red. Some are too orange, some are too pink, you might get it on your teeth and that's all kinds of awkward. One of my favourite lip colours is Chanel's Rouge Allure in excessive. Should've gotten it in the airport ugh, i'm such an indecisive shopper.

I'd suggest taking the advice of pairing red lippie with natural eye makeup. Heavy eye makeup and red lips as a set can be rather volatile; it either makes you look like a Harlot, Tranny, or well, to be honest i don't see any good coming out of overly dramatic eyes and red lipstick cause there's gonna be too much drama going on all over that face.

Some recurring shoe trends i've observed would be the laced up ankle boots, lots of suede, and fur. Though it seems like ankle boots are more popular than thigh highs or knee highs this season. Okay no i'm biased cause i just bought a pair of laced ankle boots from Korea. Yes, there'll be a mega haul post sometime soon.

One of my favourite pieces this autumn? The knitted socks. Lovelovelovelove them so much. My horrendous thunder thighs make it impossible for me to wear them cause, hello, muffin top. Also, would someone be so kind as to inform me where i can obtain sock glue? Because my thigh high socks keep slithering downwards. It's ridiculous.
Also, just a little note for the scarf under belt style in the top right hand side of the picture. Try using a scarf with less elasticity, then it's not as likely that you'll stretch it out of shape.

Lastly, one of my favourite coordinates in this issue. It also happens to be unwearable in Singapore. Tragic.

Short snippet on korea:

It was incredibly fun, there was touristy stuff as well as a whole lot of shopping. Cosmetics, mostly. Clothes need to be washed before keeping them away, so i'll get photos of the stuff i bought sometime later, maybe in a week or so. Either way, there'll be a haul post and general tourist photos to look forward to. Hopefully soon. 8DD

I'll see if i remember enough of Dongdaemun to point anyone who needs information in the right direction, in terms of shopping for clothes.
