Hope

I'm sure that by now everyone should know about the situation in Japan, but here's a roundup; a 8.9/9.0 magnitude earthquake hit around the coast of Northeastern Japan, triggering a tsunami that engulfed towns and farms in Sendai, parts of Kamaishi and a large portion of the Miyagi prefecture. There have also been threats of a nuclear meltdown in Fukushima, and Shinmoedake volcano has erupted whether or not this was a direct effct of the earthquake is unknown. Some news of an explosion at the Fukushima nuclear plant have surfaced, but i cannot find any news sources to confirm this at the moment.

People can take plenty of stances in this situation; the earth hitting back for all that pollution and damage we've caused; the disasters being a massive coincidence with japan being within the ring of fire and all; it's really up to them.

Even for those harbouring the sentiment that these natural disasters are a work of karma for the WWII Pearl Harbour bombing have a personal right to think what they like. I realise i've ranted about them to some people and tweeted several messages condemning those who have no sympathy in this situation whatsoever, but there's been enough negativity, and perhaps it's time for us to look past this minority.

While on the topic of sentiment and negativity, the "PrayforJapan" movement on various social networking sites has drawn much flak.Prayers/well-wishes vary in significance from person to person, but to criticise the "PrayforJapan" movement as impractical and pretentious is rather unfair.

In the end we're aiming for the same thing, abstract sentimentality works just as well as donations, volunteering and basically any form of help. While it can be said that physical aid is much more practical than intangible prayers, but emotional support at this point of time is equally significant. I've read reports that Japan is more than able to financially support itself through this disaster, so arguably, volunteering instead of providing money is comparably more beneficial in the current situation. My point is, it's the thought and any form of support you choose that counts.

It's not that i want to place myself on some sort of moral highground by reblogging, retweeting, or blogging about the entire situation, I only wish to convey my stance on the situation amidst the criticism crossfire that's been raging over various social media platforms.

Why can't people just unify for once and hope for the safety of everyone else?
